We are walking through life with closed eyes. The Labyrinth of Human Existence is an extension of some of the work done in the early twentieth century by the futurists and the surrealists who struggled to connect the unconscious with the conscious mind. This painting is a work that intertwines the ideas of painters like Joseph Stella and Joan Miro with ancient mystical teachings that reverberate within many cultures from the Ancient Indus Valley Civilization to the 21 century global movement to expand conscious awareness. Labyrinth is a clear view of the bridge between the conscious and the unconscious and the complexity of navigating the road of life. Depicted in this painting are symbolic representations from mystical texts of our physical body, our dream body or dream state, our deep sleep body or deep sleep state and our highest spiritual body or super conscious state. Labyrinth also symbolizes the awakening conscious mind to a great reality. The monochromatic landscape of the painting reflects the simple and yet complex mysterious web of life. Life can be simple or complex. It is the artist's intention to bring a greater awareness and appreciation for the difficulty and ease-fullness of being.
